Film Genre Of Western Films - 1169 Words

Over the past years Hollywood has produced a wide array of brilliant movies, appearing through a variety of genres. However, for every generation there consistently exists a dominant movie trend that encapsulates that culture, frequently making appearances on the big screen. Early on in filmmaking history, western movies were one of the original major trending movie genres. Later, in the 1970’s, adventure was extraordinarily popular, then horror movies saw a significant rise toward the 1980’s. Each generation has its genre. As of recently, there is an observably massive surge in the Sci-Fi/Action genres, particularly with teenagers and young men. More specifically, the rampant growth in superhero movies, which obviously fits into modern culture’s acclamation for action centric science fiction films. Over the last decade superhero movies have surged in popularity, becoming the most prominent film genre in history, because of its myriad of source material, painless production, and devout fans. Throughout the last decade, both Marvel Studios and DC Comics have release a grand total of thirty-eight superhero movies, from those two studios alone. Numerous other lesser known studios have opted to cash in on modern culture’s super hero craze. Commodity Fetishism Free Essays

Karl Marx introduces the concept of commodity fetishism which is our society’s obsession with the consumption of goods and services. It is in Marx’s opinion that this is used to mask the exploitation of the working class as they become obsessed with consuming. We use capitalism as a system of exchange value, for example we exchange our labor in order to afford food to survive instead of producing our own food. We will write a custom essay sample on Commodity Fetishism or any similar topic only for you Order Now The prices we see when we walk into a store represent the human labor required to produce the product and the approximate use value one would achieve using it. The use value is simply the amount of utility we gain from consuming or using a good or service. Now, I travel very often on business trips with my father’s investment company; recently we went on a trip to Boston with Mackenzie Investments. We stayed in a world class hotel and were treated to box seats at a NFL game, this was paid for; Marx would refer to Mackenzie’s business functions as having an exchange value. The company will subsidize our travel costs as well as provide goods and services to satisfy our wants in order to build a relationship and in turn receive our business. The use value we receive from the consumption of these commodities will also impact how we view Mackenzie. Perhaps a person in attendance at the football game detests the sport while another adores it; each person will value the experience differently as it provides different utility to each person. Our relationship between ourselves and Mackenzie is not based on an intrinsic level but rather on the giving of commodities, we will only briefly talk to the fund managers of the company so it’s hard to build a relationship on anything but what they provide us with. This relationship has the ability to be built on the giving of goods and services due to the capitalist society’s commodity fetishism. We will observe the working class where more and more people are working in factories and large corporations to produce more commodities for people to buy or services to use. While the lower class is trapped in a cyclical labor to consume cycle (in other words living pay check to pay check like 47% of the Canadian economy (globeandmail)) the rich are reaping the benefits. The workers must consume because this is what society tells them to do, they must labor in order to consume so the workers labor, be it mental or physical they are becoming a commodity themselves because they are for hire. They sell themselves and their labor to their boss who sells what they produce and in turn makes the profit. This relates directly to the alienation earlier discussed by Marx. The workers become alienated from the product they are producing for they will not use it, they become alienated from self because they are not in control of their actions, often they will also be alienated from people in their be it in their own office or at their station in a factory. The drive behind our society seems corrupt and vague; we observe the prices of goods and services but do not account for the hardships of the workers producing them. We often see ads about children overseas in sweatshops being exploited but what about our own people who slave away 9-5 at a job they hate producing goods they do not consume for the sheer benefit of the monetary gains of their boss Question: Now that we have uncovered the true nature of capitalism how can we change it? Is there any way to help abolish the fetishism which takes advantage of the working class and benefits the rich? How to cite Commodity Fetishism, Papers

Daniel Juarez Essays - Health, Diets, Nutrition, Personal Life

Daniel Juarez Professor McMillen English 101 3 May 2017 What Should We Eat There are many things that contribute to the make up of your health. Health is based on physical, mental and emotional wellness. Maintaining a healthy diet is the most important factor in your overall health because healthy food gives you more energy and enables weight control. A healthy diet cuts down on diseases such as diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and etc. Another benefit to eating healthy is an improvement of ones overall mood. One might argue that physical fitness exercise is the most important factor for being healthy, but that is just not quite true. Eating healthy fats, clean proteins, low carbohydrates, and low to no intake of sugars regardless of if it is natural sugars or added sugars is a great way to ensure premium health. Just as this way of eating would be considered a diet to most, your diet is what you eat and what foods you choose to live off. A diet is not meant to be a temporary or quick way to lose weight. A diet is meant to keep you healthy a nd improve yourself and the overall longevity of your body. There are many new diets, supplements, and health trends that appear all the time, but what is really healthy for you is being mandated by the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee (DGAC). Healthy eating should be a concern of each individual. A healthy diet is by far the most important thing in maintaining a healthy life. What is health? A vague definition of health is; the overall wellness of ones self. Your health is comprised of your physical, mental, and emotional status. Each component of health can be broken down even further, but what we want to concentrate on is the physical aspect of it. Your physical health can increase, decrease, and be maintained based off two very important factors being, physical fitness/activity (exercise) and nutrition. Maintaining a healthy diet is the most important factor in your physical health. Your body turns what you eat into energy in order for you to move, breathe, process information, and simply live in general. One might argue on the contrary that physical fitness is the more important factor of the two. The truth of the matter is yes your physical fitness may be important but without proper nutrition, your body cannot exert the appropriate amount of energy needed to exercise proficiently. How you eat, and what you eat allows for adequate energy conversion t hat fuels your body enabling peak performance. Eating healthy foods that contain healthy fats, clean proteins, low carbohydrates, and low to no intake of sugars regardless of if it is natural sugars or added sugars is a great way to ensure premium health, supplemental and efficient fuel for your body. This type of eating is what is known as a ketogetic diet. In the article "Escape from the Western Diet", author Michael Pollan states that scientists who supported carbohydrates told him that he should not allow himself to be swayed by the "omega-3 cult" (p. 420). Omega-3's are what you would call a healthy fat found in such foods as avocados, fish, olive oil and many other healthy food items that your body needs. Low carbohydrate, high fat (healthy fats) diets have proven beneficial for your health in many ways. One of the many benefits that comes from a low carbohydrate, high healthy fat diet is weight loss. Not eating carbohydrates is an effective way to lose weight because you get rid of excess water weight do to a drop of insulin levels in your body, which enables your kidneys to start releasing excess sodium. Low carbohydrate diets tend to shred abdominal fat storage very effectively. According to the article "10 Proven Health Benefits of Low- Carb and Ketogenic Diets" by Kris Gunners, "Having a lot of fat in that area can drive inflammation, insulin resistance and is believed to be a leading driver of the metabolic dysfunction that is so common in Western countries today" (p.4). Self Reflection Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Self Reflection - Essay Example While it is a fact that men are physically stronger, this doesn't mean they are intellectually superior to women in any way, thus discrimination against women at workplace or other areas is totally unfair. Even in the fields where physical strength is required, it would be unjust not to give women a chance to prove their worth. But this has been happening for a long time in every society, discrimination against women is what resulted in women rights movement in different parts of the world. One wonders why there has never been a men's rights movement, it is because men do not need any such movement, rights are given to them on a silver platter by virtue of their gender. A movement for rights is always meant for the disadvantaged or underprivileged. Black rights movement took place because this community was denied their basic rights because of the color of their skin. In the same manner women had to fight for their rights because they were refused the same because of their supposedly weaker gender. While women in every part of the country have had to struggle for their rights and the battle is still on, the results of the movement vary from nation to nation.

Lerisure and Tourism Marketing - Essay Example The principal analysis reveals that property in most of Darebin's suburbs is historically undervalued and this continues to attract residents and others from neighbouring regions to come and settle in the city. This trend is not strong enough to enable vigorous socio-economic development of the city, which is found to be disadvantaged in comparison to many other municipal council areas of Australia. So the report prepares a marketing strategy whereby this unique advantage Darebin has is utilised. The principal component of the strategy is to induce existing and lure outside investors, builders, architects, designers, property agents and others related to the trade to develop property in Darebin so that built-up space at attractive prices can be sold to outsiders. This venture is expected to generate employment as well as other local economic activities that can, together, benefit Darebin's disadvantaged population and uplift them to a higher status. Also, finally, the report states that it has been thoroughly responsible in seeking solutions that will benefit the existing population within Darebin instead of pushing them off somewhere else while replacing them with affluent outsiders.Contents 1. How employees react when facing organization change and what HR manager should do - Literature review Example None of the mini computer companies could succeed in the business of personal computers Business schools and medical colleges are finding a hard tome to transform their curriculum according to the types of doctors and managers that are in demand in the market (Christensen & Overdorf, 2000, p.67). There are numerous other examples displaying the same challenge. It is seen that change efforts fail primarily because employers fail to handle the resistance towards change from employees. Managing change successfully means managing the fear of people. However, the peoples’ reactions to change efforts remain irrational and unsuccessful. Resistance towards the change originates from the fear of the unknown and apprehensions about a loss. HR managers play the crucial role of managing the reaction or response of employees towards the change process. The apparent reason to peoples’ fears is the way they perceive the change process, while the back end reaction to the change process is the extent to which they are equipped to deal with the change process. ... The project brings forth numerous critical reviews and suggestions of researchers and practitioners on the subject and delivers a critical analysis. It also puts forth their views regarding how changes can be managed effectively through effective people management procedures (Adair, 2007, p.124). Literature Review- How employees react when facing organization change and what HR manager should do Employee Resistance to Change- Critical Analysis The research begins with analysis of the greatest challenges of managing change initiatives in the organization. Managing organizational change is a difficult process as the conditions under which it is undertaken at the initial stage keeps changing. As situations keep shifting it becomes increasingly difficult for the top managers and agents to prepare for manage the change process in a way which satisfied both employers and employees. It is not surprising to understand that change resistance has attracted immense attention from practitioners and researchers. Immense attention has gone into the understanding of determinants and sources of change resistance. The general public and the media have gone into various forms of active resistances such as protests and strikes. Some of the other forms of organizational resistances are passive resistance, which is comparatively less observable, but has immensely attracted the concern of employers in organizations. Unsurprisingly, resistance towards change initiatives account for being one of the most crucial sources of organizational change failures (Conger & Kanungo, 1998, p.8). Child Victimization Essay -- Social Issues, Child Abuse

According to Finkelhor et al (2005), the increasing rates of child victimization over the last few decades have created a global attention on child abuse. With these increasing rates, most countries all over the world have begun to address this situation. Most countries have enacted laws that classify child victimization cases as criminal offenses punishable according to the provisions of the law (Finkelhor et al, 2005). As noted by Giardino (2010), the increasing prevalence and consequences of child abuse calls for detailed researches and investigations across the world. This research paper explores the controversial topic on child victims. The paper describes the major types of child abuse, the extent of the problem, intergenerational transmission of violence, theories regarding child abuse, and the special types of child abuse. Types of Child Abuse Child abuse as described by Giardino (2010) refers to the aspect of causing or allowing the causation of any offensive contact that can be termed as harmful to the body of a child. Further, Giardino (2010) defines it as the use of offensive communication that may harm the child, shame him, or offend him. In a psychological perspective, child abuse can be termed as an act that omits several procedures in the development of the child (Giardino, 2010). The Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act that has been enacted in the U.S. describes child abuse as, â€Å"at a minimum, any recent act or failure to act on the part of a parent or caretaker, which results in death, serious physical or emotional harm, sexual abuse or exploitation, or an act or failure to act which presents an imminent risk of serious harm† (Giardino, 2010).
